I study how animals communicate with each other, and why communication signals have evolved into certain designs, focusing on birds.

Being especially curious about signals and cues involving sound, I have conducted research into vocal mimicry, the dawn chorus, song dialects, and song and dance displays. At present, I have the great privilege of examining these topics using the superb lyrebird as a model species.
