Andrew Russell is the Head of Department for Politics at the University of Liverpool.
He is best known for his work on political parties and electoral engagement.

He authored (with Ed Fieldhouse) the 2005 Book Neither Left Nor Right? The Liberal Democrats and the Electorate and is working with David Cutts on a new book on the LibDems. Cutts and Russell have written the LibDem chapters for the "Britain Votes" Election series in 2005, 2010, 2015, 2017 and now 2019.

Andrew's other work mainly concerns hard-to-reach and marginalised communities. He has written extensively on young people and participation in electoral and non-electoral politics and is involved in a significant international research project with colleagues from the UK, Europe and the USA on marginalisation and participation. He is currently working on Roma communities in Europe crystallises many of the themes that he is known for looking at democratic engagement in theory and practice.
