Professor Andrew Western is a hydrologist and deputy Head of the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at the University of Melbourne. He has extensive experience in research project management having successfully led several major research projects to fruition. His hydrology expertise include field monitoring, physically-based and conceptual catchment and river modelling, catchment analysis, water quality and remote sensing. He has concentrated on integrating these areas to support catchment system understanding and management. He has strong links with industry as demonstrated by a series of successful ARC LP projects, CRC for Catchment Hydrology, eWater CRC and direct industry funding.

Prof. Western undertakes targeted consulting projects including project reviews and projects aimed at transferring research results to industry partners. In addition to his research and consulting work, Prof Western teaches surface and groundwater hydrology and environmental modelling. He has surpervised 10 PhDs to completion. His PhD students are now working in academia, research organisations and industry.
