Angela Schöpke Gonzalez

I specialize in ethical technology design, with a focus on its implementation in immigration. My research is dedicated to: (1) understanding the agency and responsibility that individuals and collectives involved in algorithm design, implementation, and application (ADIA) can have in creating just futures, and (2) identifying how to update technological infrastructures in ways that support just futures.

I study these topics using a multimethods – participatory action research , arts-based, archival, survey, ethnographic, and computing methods – approach with diverse actor groups like data professionals (DPs) involved in ADIA, migrant communities subject to the application of algorithms, content moderators developing training datasets for use in ADIA, and others.
