Associate Professor, University of Otago

Associate Professor Anna Carr’s research expertise focuses on nature tourism in protected areas, adventure tourism and Indigenous development. Her PhD investigated the management and interpretation of cultural landscapes in Aotearoa New Zealand. She has undertaken consultancies and research in Canada, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Norway, Scotland and Japan as an academic or for agencies including Ministry Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Department of Conservation, Sport NZ (SPARC), Mountain Safety Council NZ, OPUS and commercial operators. Her whakapapa is to Ngati Ruanui, Ngapuhi (Mahurehure), Ngaruahine and pakeha.
