I focus on the intersection between religion, politics, and race in modern US History. My work centers on the history of the development of nonviolence as a political philosophy in the decades before the peak years of the Civil Rights Movement. My research also focuses more broadly on interracialism and interracial organizing across the 20th century.
I also work at the intersection of the academy and the community through programs designed for faculty, staff, students, and off campus partners to advance research, learning, and community impact.
