Aparna Mishra Tarc

Associate Professor of Education, York University, Canada

For the past twenty years, Aparna Mishra Tarc's work has attended to the situations of displaced children in the classroom and the world for the purposes of teacher education. Her scholarship engages the educational humanities to theorize pedagogies, processes, and practices of subject formation and social difference.

Her current research project addresses the growing demand for teachers and cultural workers to hear, learn from, and educationally respond to children’s complex expressions and experiences of traumatic migration. Professor Mishra Tarc is the author of a monograph, Literacy of the Other: Renarrating Humanity (SUNY Press), and a number of articles addressing "children's knowledge" of personal, social and political violence, and traumatic history.

She is a former elementary school teacher and Associate Professor of Education in the Faculty of Education, York University.
