Arlene is an NCTJ-qualified journalist who worked on national and regional newspapers and websites for 16 years as a reporter, multimedia news editor, and sub-editor/page designer.
She now works as a freelance media writer and sub-editor, and is an associate lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield. She teaches newspaper and magazine page design, news website design, news and feature writing, and media law.
Arlene was a magazine editor and press officer at Welcome to Yorkshire in Leeds, and also works freelance in PR and media training.
Professional awards include Yorkshire News Reporter of the Year in 2003 and 2004, and runner-up in UK Press Gazette Scoop of the Year in 2002.
She has a BA in English and an MSc in Psychology.
