Arvind Magesan is Professor of Economics at the University of Calgary. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto (2011). His primary areas of interest are in econometric methodology, political economy, and applied microeconomics. His work has appeared in leading international journals such including The Review of Economic Studies, The American Political Science Review and The American Economic Journal: Policy. He is currently working on a major project that studies the causes and consequences of election outcomes in India. The most recent paper from this project studies how regional political parties cause political violence in the areas they are elected to represent. Magesan’s work on this project is funded by an Insight Grant from The Social Sciences and Humanities Council (SSHRC) of Canada.
