Ashari Cahyo Edi has over seven years of working in democracy, governance, and policy in the Indonesian context.

He participated in 2014-2015 On Think Tanks Exchange—an initiative led by The On Think Tanks (OTT) to facilitate research and institutional development—involving ten young researchers from 9 countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia. In 2015, as a part of a cooperation between UGM, General Elections Commission of Indonesia, and Australian Electoral Commission, he was a Visiting Fellow at the School of Politics and International Relations, College of Arts and Sciences, the Australian National University.

Ashari holds a Master's in Public Administration from Joseph R Biden, Jr., School of Public Policy & Administration, University of Delaware (2013). In addition, he attended the Spring School on "Democracy and Social Democratic Development in the Global South" at the University of Oslo, Norway, in 2017. He is currently a Fulbright scholar pursuing a Ph.D. Degree in Political Science at Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, University at Albany, SUNY.
