Ashari Cahyo Edi has over seven years of working in democracy, governance, and policy in the Indonesian context. As a policy expert, he has served as a research and project coordinator, as well as an external evaluator, for a number of democracy and governance projects and grants in Indonesia. He has worked on grants or projects funded by USAID, UNDEF, The Ford Foundations, Mercy Corps, IRI, GIZ, NDI, AusAid/DFAT, and DfID.
During 2014-2015, representing IRE and funded by Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI), Ashari participated in the "On Think Tanks Exchange", which allowed him to visit Ecuador and Brazil to do collaborative research about think tanks business models. Also, in 2015, representing DPP UGM, he was a Visiting Fellow at the School of Politics and International Relations, College of Arts and Sciences, the Australian National University. In 2017, he took the Spring School on "Democracy and Social Democratic Development in the Global South," at the University of Oslo, Norway.
Ashari holds a Master's in Public Administration from Joseph R Biden, Jr., School of Public Policy & Administration, University of Delaware (2013). He is currently a Fulbright scholar pursuing a Ph.D. Degree in Political Science at University at Albany, State University of New York, USA.
