Researcher and Ph.D candidate, Royal Roads University

I’m a PhD candidate in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy at the University of British Columbia. My current research project is entitled “Threshold Concepts in Connectivist MOOCs” and looks at the types of knowledge and skills needed to participate in open online learning experiences. If you’re interested, you can read all 50 pages here: Research Proposal

My MSc. is in Educational Research Methodology from the University of Oxford. My thesis, a mixed methods case study entitled The Role of Facebook in the Lives of Postgraduate Students, earned a mark of distinction. I also hold a B.Ed. and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Victoria.

Currently, I’m working as an Educational Consultant with the Office of Experiential Education in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. We’re designing a series of online modules around teaching and learning in clinical settings to help professional pharmacists as they work with student pharmacists during clinical education placements. I also work as a sessional instructor in the teacher education programme here at UBC teaching courses around technology and digital media, inquiry based approaches to education, and trades/vocational teacher education.
