Astraea Augsberger

Assistant Professor of Social Work, Boston University

Astraea Augsberger is Assistant Professor at the Boston University School of Social Work. She joined the faculty after 15 years in clinical social work practice. She was a forensic social worker and supervisor at the Juvenile Rights Practice of the Legal Aid Society in New York City Family Court and directed social work services at International House, New York. This experience drives her current community-engaged research in child welfare policy practice, youth civic engagement and health equity.

Augsberger’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including BMC-Health Services Research, Children and Youth Services Review, Journal of Community Psychology, and Journal of Adolescent Research. She has served as the principal investigator of funded studies focused on family and youth engagement in child welfare, health care, and education.

In 2018, Augsberger served as an expert advisor for Youth Engagement Strategies Convening, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Planning and Evaluation at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She is an affiliated faculty member of BUSSW’s Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health (CISWH) and of Boston University’s Initiative on Cities.
