Prof SH (Basie) von Solms is a Research Professor in the Academy for Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Johannesburg in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He is also the Director of the Centre for Cyber Security at the University of Johannesburg (adam.uj.ac.za/csi).
Prof von Solms specializes in research and consultancy in the area of Information and Cyber Security, Critical Information Infrastructure Protection, Cyber Crime and other related cyber aspects. He had written and presented more than 130 papers regarding this field - most of which have been presented at international research conferences and/or published in international subject journals. In addition, he has supervised more than 120 post graduate students in the ICT field. He has a B rating awarded by the National Research Foundation of South Africa. Prof von Solms is the immediate Past President of IFIP, the International Federation for Information Processing (www.ifip.org).
He is a Fellow of the Computer Society of South Africa (FCSSA), a Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS), and a Fellow of the Global Cyber Security Capacity Centre (GCSCC) of the University of Oxford, UK. He is also a member of the Technical Board of the GCSCC. He is also a Chartered Information Technology Professional (CITP).
Basie is a member of the Editorial Boards of International Journal of Business and Cyber Security and the International Journal of Critical Infrastructure Protection.
