Bodo B. Schlegelmilch

Professor of International Management and Marketing, Vienna University of Economics and Business

Professor Bodo B. Schlegelmilch is Chair of the Institute for International Marketing Management at WU Vienna and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Association of MBAs [AMBA]. From 2004-2015, he served as founding Dean of the WU Executive Academy. Initially educated in Germany, he obtained two doctorates (a Ph.D. and a D.Litt.) from Manchester University and an honorary Ph.D. from Thammasat University (Thailand). Starting at Deutsche Bank and Procter & Gamble in Germany, he continued his career at the University of Edinburgh and the University of California, Berkeley. Appointments as British Rail Chair of Marketing at the University of Wales (UK) and Professor of International Business at Thunderbird School of Global Management (USA) followed.

Bodo serves on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Marketing Science, USA and the Executive Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Austria. He is on the Advisory Board of a number of international Business Schools and holds/held various visiting appointments, for example at the Universities of Minnesota (USA), Keio (Japan), Leeds (UK), Sun Yat-Sen (China), Cologne (Germany) and the Indian School of Business (India).

Bodo taught in over 30 countries on six continents and was listed among the world’s most prolific authors of international marketing articles (No. 12) during 1995 and 2015 and among the top fifteen contributors to the international marketing literature during 1987-1993; and the top three contributors to the International Marketing Review between 1992 and 2002. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Bodo has been ranked among the top 5 strongest researchers (lifetime achievements) in marketing in three consecutive analyses.

His research has been published in a wide variety of books and journals, such as the Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of World Business. He has also been the first European Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Marketing, published by the American Marketing Association.
