My research examines the relationships between gentrification, neighbourhood change and mobility. I use a variety of methods including photography to better understand the challenges and complexities of contemporary cities, how they change and how people experience them.
Originally from Toronto, I lived in the Netherlands between 2004 - 2017, where I obtained my MSc and PhD from Utrecht University.
I am currently researching gentrification and displacement along Waterloo Region's new Light Rail Transit line, as well as the role Toronto is playing in shaping gentrification and neighbourhood change in Hamilton.
I am the co-author of the book 'Streetcars and the Shifting Geography of Toronto: a visual analysis of change' (2022, University of Toronto Press) and the co-editor of the four-volume series 'Global Reflections on COVID-19 and Urban Inequalities' (2021, Bristol University Press).
Since 2017, I have been an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo.
