Dr Doucet's research examines the relationships between gentrification, neighbourhood change and mobility. He use a variety of methods including photography to better understand the challenges and complexities of contemporary cities, how they change, and how people experience them. Dr Doucet is particularly interested in understanding the stories, experiences and knowledge that are not visible within statistics.
Originally from Toronto, he lived in the Netherlands between 2004 - 2017, where he obtained his MSc and PhD in geography from Utrecht University.
Current research includes examining displacement along Waterloo Region's light rail transit line, gentrification and neighbourhood change in Hamilton, and how people experience cycling in different countries.
Dr Doucet is the co-author of the book 'Streetcars and the Shifting Geography of Toronto: a visual analysis of change' (2022, University of Toronto Press) and the co-editor of the four-volume series 'Global Reflections on COVID-19 and Urban Inequalities' (2021, Bristol University Press).
He held the Canada Research Chair in Urban Change and Social Inclusion (2017 - 2023) and is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo.
