Senior Lecturer in the Study of Islam & the Muslim World, King's College London

Carool Kersten is Senior Lecturer in the study of Islam and the Muslim World at King's College London and Research Associate at the Centre of Southeast Asian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

He is the author and editor of seven books, including Islam in Indonesia: The Contest for Society, Ideas and Values (2015). Currently, he is completing a survey of the history of Islam in Indonesia for Edinburgh University Press.

Carool Kersten has a PhD in the Study of Religions from SOAS, an MA in Arabic Studies from Radboud University Nijmegen (The Netherlands), and a Certificate in Southeast Asian Studies from Payap University (Thailand).

He has also taught at the Open University (UK), Payap University and the Institute of Ismaili Studies. In 2006, he was a research affiliate at the Asia Research Institute of the National University Singapore.
