Clinical Physician, University of Virginia

Dr. Cate Varney, DO, is board certified in both family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She has been practicing obesity medicine for 11 years. She is currently serving on both the national Obesity Medicine Association Advocacy and Bariatric and Surgical Medical committees and is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. She currently works with patients in a primary care setting and is also performs obesity research as an Assistant Professor with the University of Virginia Medical School Department of Family Medicine. Prior to joining UVA in 2017, she worked at Bon Secours Healthcare System where she created and implemented diabetic group visits in the outpatient setting. Immediately following her residency at Intermoutain HealthCare, she joined the family medicine residency community based attending physician group and served on the Intermountain Care Process model committee that was responsible for creating and implementing evidence based treatment plans for ambulatory clinics. Currently at UVA she and the lead pharmacist at Zion Crossroads location created the first ever physician-pharmacist collaborative agreement program for the management of diabetes.
