Conjoint Associate Professor, School of Humanities & Social Science, University of Newcastle

As an active researcher, my publications focus particularly on the experiences of mature-age, first-in-family, online and regional students. For many years I held senior management roles in student support services at the University of Newcastle as well as with Open Universities Australia, which developed my strong interest in the online student experience. In 2016 I was an inaugural Equity Fellow with the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) at Curtin University (where I continue an Adjunct Research Fellow) conducting research into the online student experience and developing “National Guidelines for Improving Student Outcomes in Online Learning”. I now work as an independent consultant in improving outcomes for diverse student cohorts in higher education.
