Associate Dean, Murdoch University

Dr Chad Morrison is an Associate Dean and Academic Chair of Professional Experience within the School of Education, Murdoch University. Chad’s qualifications are in the fields of Primary Teaching and Tertiary Education. His early teaching experiences in South Australian schools became the impetus for doctoral research and a path into teacher education. Chad entered teacher education at a time of significant reform, which has provided diverse opportunities to participate in stimulating and challenging initiatives with colleagues across Australia. His teaching, research and HDR supervision concentrate on the interrelated fields of preparation of pre-service teachers and early career teacher practice and experience. Chad focuses on aspects of pre-service teacher experience, including professional experience (Work Integrated Learning) placements and internships, effective management of learning environments and instructional management, teaching performance assessments, and teaching simulations. He is keenly interested in the implications of the changing nature of Australian teacher educators’ work, through policy and practice. These align with his research and HDR supervision, exploring diverse aspects of early career teaching, including teacher professional identity work, resilience and well-being. These interrelated research themes focus attention on the transition from pre-service to early career teaching and emphasise the enabling conditions and resources that support graduate teachers to establish emergent, successful career trajectories within complex, contemporary professional roles and contexts.
