Academic Lead Partnerships, University of Portsmouth

Charlie is an academic and principal lecturer at the University of Portsmouth and has been teaching live television production, documentary filmmaking and post-production editing since 2003. In 2009 Charlie became a subject lead for BSc Television and Broadcasting, an undergraduate course that has since gone on to win various awards for both students and staff, and recently he has become academic lead partnerships for the School of Film, Media and Communication.

Charlie enjoyed a career as an Avid freelance editor before joining the university, and enjoyed a varied career of cutting documentaries and corporate films, and in 2011 became an Avid Certified Instructor.

Charlie is involved in the faculty television channel (CCI TV) and is closely involved in the delivery of industry skills, the production of regular live TV programming and outside broadcast recording, all of which form the heart of a unique and exciting student teaching and learning experience.

in 2018 the course was awarded the NewTek National Award for Best UK Content for the Live OB - The Mary Rose Live: Human Endeavours by BSc (Hons) Television and Broadcasting students at University of Portsmouth, and staff were awarded NewTek UK Tutors of the Year.

In 2019 BSc Television and Broadcasting received two NewTek National Awards for the TV programes NHS70 Live (winning Best Live Broadcast) and The Wymering Manor Investigation (winning Best Factual Content).
