Claire Bessant (Ph.D., University of Leicester) is Associate Professor in Law at Northumbria University, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. Claire’s research encompasses family law, privacy law, and human rights. Claire's most recent research focuses upon the law’s response to threats posed both to family privacy and to children’s privacy by a digital society; parents as privacy stewards; and the phenomenon of ‘sharenting’. She has contributed to government and parliamentary consultations, on both domestic violence and online privacy. Her research has been published in the Journal of Consumer Affairs, European Journal of Law and Technology, and Communications Law. Claire is joint Managing Editor of the open-access Journal of Law, Technology and Trust. Claire is also a member of the Association of Internet Researchers, the International Society of Family Law, the Socio-Legal Studies Association and the Society of Legal Scholars.
