Dr Claire Haworth

Claire’s work focuses on what she has called Positive Genetics, which includes understanding genetic and environmental influences on positive outcomes, as well as investigating the role of genetics in intervention and positive gene-environment interaction. She is focusing her research on psychological and subjective wellbeing, the links between wellbeing and cognitive, behavioural and health outcomes, and the influence of online social networks on wellbeing in young adulthood.

My research addresses questions such as: Why are some people happier than others? What are the links between mental health and illness? And is wellbeing related to success at school or in the workplace? A crucial issue is whether we can increase wellbeing. I am currently conducting an online intervention that shows that simple activities like performing acts of kindness and writing gratitude letters can improve wellbeing in adolescence.
