Professor of Stem Cell Biology, Liverpool John Moores University

I am Professor of Stem Cell Biology at Liverpool John Moore's University. I have a fundamental research interest in the regulators of muscle adaptation, during health and disease, with injury and disuse, as a result of ageing and in elite sport. I have a degree in Developmental Biology, a PhD in Physiology and over 25 years of research and teaching experience in the field of muscle adaptation. The use of adult human stem cells provides a unique focus for me in the developing arena of cell and molecular exercise physiology. I am honoured to be the Chair of the British Society for Research on Ageing, to work closely with the Society for Endocrinology public engagement board and to work with the Physiology Society on developing policies to support healthy ageing.
