Lecturer in French Theatre and Performance, University of Bristol

I am a theatre historian of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods. My principal research interests include censorship, propaganda, celebrity, the French Revolution and Napoleon.

I am the author of 'Tragedy and Nation in the Age of Napoleon' (2020), and have co-edited three works: 'Celebrity Across the Channel, 1750-1850' (with Anaïs Pédron, University of Delaware Press, 2021); a special issue of the Journal for War and Culture Studies on ‘Theatrical Encounters During the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars’ (with Annelies Andries); and 'Engagement en vers et contre tous: servir les révolutions, rejouer leurs mémoires' (with Jérémy Decot, Presses universitaires Blaise Pascal, forthcoming).

My current project, funded by a Leverhulme Research Fellowship, looks at theatre censorship during the longer revolutionary period (1788-1818) and the representation of different political regimes on the stage during this time.
