Professorial Research Fellow, University of Sydney

Colin Clifford is professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Sydney and a chief investigator of the Australian Centre of Excellence in Vision Science. After an undistinguished undergraduate career at Cambridge University he spent a year in Japan teaching English as a foreign language (badly). Following a succession of temporary jobs on his return to the UK, from packing chemicals to driving a laundry van, he finally found his academic niche, gaining an MSc with Distinction in Knowledge-based Systems from Sussex University. Soon afterwards he went to work as a research assistant in the Psychology Department at University College London, graduating with a PhD in 1997. He carried out post-doctoral research in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University and in Psychology and Cognitive Science at Macquarie University in Sydney before joining the faculty of the School of Psychology at the University of Sydney in 2001.
