Courtney-Jay Williams

Principal Advisor at Indigenous Climate Change, Indigenous Knowledge

Courtney-Jay Williams is an Australian Aboriginal from the Gamilaraay nation. She grew up on the Yugambeh country in Southeast Queensland and Yolngu homelands in North-East Arnhem Land. She has always been passionate about her heritage, culture, and the environment.

Courtney has a background in environmental science and traditional knowledge, which she uses to help Indigenous people across the Pacific adapt to our changing climate. As Principal Advisor at Indigenous Climate Change, her main focus is on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction for Indigenous people. She has a special interest in combining scientific and traditional knowledge to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem monitoring and management.

Courtney is skilled in using drones for ecosystem monitoring and GIS humanitarian applications, such as disaster mapping, human settlement detection and disaster risk assessment. She is excited to be using her skills to help communities prepare for the challenges posed by climate change.

Courtney is passionate about her work, and believes that Traditional Knowledge Holders have an important role to play in protecting our planet's natural resources.
