Prof Craig McGregor is a process engineer by training and obtained a PhD in Reactor Optimisation at the University of the Witwatersrand. He worked at Sasol for over 20 years in the Research and Development department of Sasol Technology, where he was involved in developing several technologies. Two of these were completely novel to the chemical industry.
Prof McGregor was tasked to develop a technology development roadmap for concentrating solar power and put together a team of engineers for this task in about 2010. He then worked with the team on Power cycles, looking at supercritical CO2 for concentrating solar power, and a mid-sized heliostat named Project Stellio. Prof McGregor is now an associate professor at Stellenbosch University.
