PhD Student in Housing & Economic Development Policy, University of the West of Scotland

I am a first year PhD student at University of West of Scotland doing research on an evolving area of housing and economic development policy where housing planning at the local level is becoming more aligned with economic development ends. I am seeking to explore:

- The tensions between local and central government when local actors attempt to take on an active market shaping role in undertaking strategic housing interventions to support economic development objectives

- The means by which local actors can transform or mitigate space neutral housing planning assumptions set at the centre when undertaking a place based economic development approach

Since I completed my Masters in 2018 I have contributed to publications on City Region Deals in Scotland and Food Insecurity.

Outside of academia I work as a Policy Officer for a Local Authority in the area of Housing Strategy.
