Dr Daniel Laufer, PhD, MBA (The University of Texas at Austin, USA), is an Associate Professor of Marketing at Victoria University of Wellington, and a former head of the school and member of the faculty management team (2014-2017) at the Victoria Business School.

His area of expertise is crisis management and his research focuses on crisis communications. Dr Laufer's published research involves data collected from consumers around the world (North America, Europe, Asia), and his articles have appeared in leading academic and managerial journals. In addition to publishing articles about crisis management, Dr Laufer has served as a guest editor for leading journals on the topic. He currently serves as Associate Editor for both the European Journal of Marketing, a leading journal in the field of Marketing, and the well-known managerial journal Business Horizons.

Dr. Laufer's activities extend beyond research, and include media commentary. He is frequently quoted as an expert on Crisis Management, and his commentary has appeared in prestigious media outlets including: The Economist, WSJ, AP, CNN, the Guardian, Sina News in China, and Nikkei in Japan.

In addition to global media commentary, Dr. Laufer was a columnist on Crisis Management in 2019-2020 for the Herald, the most widely read newspaper in New Zealand. His column appeared 15 times in the newspaper.
