Darrel Manitowabi

Associate professor, Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Laurentian University

Darrel Manitowabi, PhD, is an associate professor in Human Sciences at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. He is the inaugural Jason A. Hannah Chair in the History of Indigenous Health and Traditional Medicine. He is Three Fires Anishinaabe from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island and currently resides in the Whitefish River First Nation. His interest in Indigenous health is the intersection of Indigenous culture, history, theory and practice with colonialism, health determinants, and Indigenous self-determination. He is currently collaborating in research examining Indigenous cultural models of healing from opioid addiction.
