Dr. Blunck is a leader in the study of reacting flows, wildfires, and gas turbine engines, as illustrated by his many accomplishments at Oregon State University, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and Purdue University. He established the Combustion, Ignition, Radiation and Energy Laboratory as well as founded the Propulsion Laboratory at Oregon State University. The latter has remote testing capabilities and is one of just a few such university laboratories in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Blunck currently serves as the Associate Head for the Undergraduate Program in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacutring Engineering. In 2019, he received the Research Collaboration award from the College of Engineering at Oregon State University. Dr. Blunck is the recipient of the Young Investigator Award from the office of Naval Research in 2016. In 2015 Dr. Blunck was named the 2014-2015 AIAA Pacific Northwest Section Young Engineer of the Year award.
