Professor of Energy and Buildings, Heriot-Watt University

I am a Professor of Energy and Buildings, leading the Urban Energy Research Group (UERG) at Heriot-Watt’s Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Building Design. An active researcher at Heriot-Watt since 2005, I have over 100 publications in the field of energy in buildings and worked on a number of research projects such as “Tarbase”, “Low Carbon Futures (LCF)”, “Adaptation and Resilience In Energy Systems (ARIES)”, "Community-scale Energy Demand Reduction in India (CEDRI)", ReFlexOrkney, and the £20M Centre for Energy Systems Integration (CESI).

I have carried out work, and provided advice, for Scottish and UK Government reports on low energy building policy, including DCLG’s 2007 “Report on carbon reductions in new non-domestic buildings”, DECC’s 2011 Housing Energy Factfile, Scottish Government Fuel Poverty Forum and a DECC "Mystery Shopper" review of the Green Deal. I have also served on the advisory group for the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) team drafting Chapter 2 of CIBSE’s “Guide A” on Environmental Design.
