Dr. David L. Di Maria is currently the Senior International Officer and Associate Vice Provost for International Education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where he leads institutional strategy for global engagement. Previously, he served as Associate Provost for International Programs at Montana State University, Director of International Programs and Services at Kent State University and Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services at St. Cloud State University.
As an international education scholar-practitioner, Dr. Di Maria regularly presents, publishes and consults on critical issues impacting international higher education. He is the author or editor of three books, and he has written more than 40 articles, book chapters, essays and technical publications focused on international education. Dr. Di Maria is also an active member of the editorial and review boards of various academic journals in the field of international education.
Dr. Di Maria previously served on the American Council on Education's Commission on Internationalization and Global Engagement, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities' Commission on International Initiatives, and he is a former president of the American International Recruitment Council. In 2022, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to serve on the Maryland/D.C. District Export Council as a representative of the education and training services sector. Dr. Di Maria earned a doctorate from the University of Minnesota, where his studies examined internationalization from a P-16 perspective. His scholarly expertise focuses on international student mobility trends, international enrollment management and structures to support internationalization strategies.
