Professor of Political Science, City University of New York

I am a Professor of Political Science at the City University of New York's (CUNY) Guttman Community College. My research interests are securitization of refugee policy and international humanitarian law. I have taught a range of Political Science, International Relations and Public Administration courses in the United States, Brazil, South Africa and Kenya.

My current research relates the construction of national identity in developing contexts. I am focusing on the Garifuna, an Afro Belizean diaspora community. I hope to broaden the understanding of normative and ideational structures that construct the societal identity of the modern Belizean state. More broadly, I hope this research will add to the understanding of the construction of the foreign policies of developing nations.I also regularly provide media contributions on a range of topical issues concerning International Affairs on Voice of America, Deutsche Welle, Citizen and Nation Television.
