Dr Hanak is the Professor of Decarbonisation of Industrial Clusters. He leads transformational research to develop breakthrough technologies such as direct air capture, carbon capture, hydrogen production, and high-value chemicals and fuels synthesis. His expertise is in process design and development, third-party validation, techno-economic feasibility assessment, environmental impact assessment, and business model development. To date, Dawid has authored over 60 articles in prestigious journals and several trade articles about innovative technologies that can enable the green energy transition.
Dawid works together with businesses and entrepreneurs to demonstrate the feasibility of innovative processes that will enable meeting net-zero emission targets by 2050. His research proved the techno-economic feasibility of the innovative direct air capture technology in the Balanced Energy Networks project. This collaborative project won Engineer's "Collaborate to Innovate" Award in the Energy and Environment theme. Dawid also proved the techno-economic feasibility of using breakthrough polymer-based materials for CO2 capture in the Combined Energy Recovery and CO2 Capture project. This partnership won the "Clean Environment Award" for 2019/2020 at the Rushworth Show. His research was also awarded by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Coal Research Forum and the UKCCSRC. He has successfully delivered more than 21 research and commercial projects and supervised over 60 MSc and PhD projects.
