Deborah's work focuses on settings of place-based disadvantage and communities experiencing social and economic marginalisation, including the area effects of poverty and place-based disadvantage for health-related outcomes, sociospatial polarisation and fragmentation in urban environments, associations between place and access to social capital and vulnerability to social exclusion, and the implications of neighbourhood stigma.

She has strong interests in fostering community collaborations for research to enhance practical and scholarly outcomes.
