First Nations Practice Lead: Social Ventures Australia, Indigenous Knowledge

Desmond Campbell is a proud Gurindji (Southern-Western Desert) and the Ngalakan (South-East Arnhem Land) man in the Northern Territory. Desmond is currently the First Nations Practice Lead and Manager Consultant with Social Ventures Australia. Desmond’s role as First Nations Practice Lead provides opportunities to work with senior leaders across SVA to ensure the organisations cultural capability is further developed such as adapting and implementing a First Nations Practice Principle guide and meets with external service providers and partners establishing opportunities for collaborative initiatives SVA could be involved in. Desmond’s most recent professional working experience prior to SVA has been with the Northern Territory Government in a number of roles including Operations Manager for the community based Family Violence Program with NT Correctional Services which also included public policy and framework development and implementation around family and domestic violence prevention; a Project Officer developing a gender equity strategy with the Anti-Discrimination Commission and, more recently, Senior Executive Officer for the Attorney General and Justice Department for the Northern Territory. Desmond has been a Community representative Board Director of the domestic and family violence prevention organisation, Our Watch since 2019. Desmond continues to guest speak at a number of national conferences on domestic and family violence prevention and has been invited to participate in numerous NT based and national government funding assessment panels.
