Devran Gulel holds a PhD in law from the University of Portsmouth, UK, where she was a fully-funded doctoral candidate between 2017 and 2020. Gulel is engaged in interdisciplinary research spanning law, politics and society, feminism and gender politics in a global context, democratic backsliding and authoritarianism, human rights under authoritarian regimes, and misogyny in political discourse, the judiciary, and law enforcement. In her previous role as the Jean Monnet Scholar of Turkey (2015-2016), she researched women's welfare in the Nordic Welfare States at Lund University (Sweden). Dr Gulel has taught a wide range of modules, including European Union law, identity politics, comparative politics, and global feminism.
