Dina Balabanova PhD, is a Professor in Health Systems and Policy in the Department of Global Health and Development at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with over 25 years of experience in health systems research—governance, effective delivery models and health systems strengthening—across a range of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). She leads a portfolio on anti-corruption research in Bangladesh, Nigeria, Tanzania and Malawi, exploring structural and social drivers of health sector corruption, and identifying tailored strategies to address these practices. Balabanova has long-term interest in responding to the growing burden of NCD (hypertension and diabetes in LMICs) and in capacity building and creating learning networks. Past work involved the ‘Good Health at Low Cost 25 year on’ funded by the Rockefeller Foundation examining how some countries have made major advances in health and access to services than others at a similar level of income. She was a Health Systems Global board member (2012-18), and is a co-founder/co-chair of the TWG Action on Accountability and Anti-corruption for achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (AAA-SDG). She served as commissioner on the Lancet Commission on Realigning Child Health in the SDG Era (2019-20) and on the Lancet Commission on PHC Financing for LMICs (2019-22).
