Lecturer (assistant professor) in Marketing, Macquarie University

Dr Joseph Chen is a lecturer in the Department of Marketing at Macquarie Business School in Sydney, Australia. He holds bachelor and master’s degrees in psychology and a doctoral degree in marketing. His PhD thesis was formally recognised as being of exceptional quality (among the top 10%) by the University of Otago, New Zealand. Before commencing his role at Macquarie University, he lectured at the University of Otago and supervised Doctoral of Business Administration students.

His research focuses on brand scandals, product-harm crises, and data breaches. He is keen to develop and disseminate knowledge about real-world industry problems and hopes to shape industry practices to benefit the broader society. His research appears in reputable journals including Journal of Business Ethics (in the Financial Times' Top 50 Journals), Journal of International Marketing (IF=3.4, ABS=3, ABDC=A) and International Marketing Review (IF=3.4, ABS=3, ABDC=A). He also serves as a reviewer for International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing, Association for Consumer Research Conference, and European Association for Consumer Research Conference.

Research interests: consumer behaviour, product-harm crisis, ethical judgment, and social media.
