I am a a mixed-race Cree woman born and raised in Syilx and Splats'in territories in British Columbia, and connected through my children to Six Nations of the Grand River. I am an Indigenous feminist sociologist whose research focuses on violence against Indigenous women and girls, Indigenous women's political leadership, and Canadian state colonialism. I am also a survivor of sex trafficking and have examined this topic in relation to colonialism. In 2018, I testified as an experiential and expert witness at the National Inquiry. In addition to being an academic, I have been involved in the activism surrounding Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people for twenty years.
