Elise Boyle Espinosa

PhD Candidate, University of Aberdeen

PhD candidate / Early Stage Researcher with the Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society, and Rule of Law at the University of Aberdeen. Funded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie foundation, I'm researching the significance of the propagation of ideology through education by Islamic State to their support in Iraq and Syria, reflective of a broader interest in the role of ideology in social and political change. This builds on past research on the education system established as part of the ‘Rojava Revolution’ in northern Syria, where through extensive fieldwork I investigated the implications it has had for governance of the region.
