Elizabeth Kalles

PhD student, School of Public Health Sciences, University of Waterloo

I research the home and community healthcare industry in Canada, with projects ranging from pure knowledge creation (e.g., exploring the top 10 unanswered aging and mental health research priorities of Canadians), to knowledge-to-action (e.g., co-designing approaches to starting mental health conversations), and evaluation (e.g., evaluating a training package for social care workers helping individuals experiencing homelessness through their end of life). My work with the SE Research Centre is at the intersection of traditional researcher-driven activities and participatory, just-in-time, co-design based work. My specialties are quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and collaboratively engaging community members in design processes.

In the spring of 2022, I completed a Masters of Science in Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo. My research identified the aging and mental health considerations of older adults, caregivers, and health/social care providers in Canada and applied them through investigation on the mental health differences of older adults receiving home care services in Ontario during the pandemic. I started my PhD in Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo in September 2022.
