Dr Elke Hacker is a mid-career researcher in the skin cancer field at the Queensland University of Technology. Dr Hacker completed her PhD and post-doctoral studies at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, expanding her research from mouse models to human clinical studies and has generated results that improve our understanding of the interplay between sun exposure, genetic susceptibility and skin cancer risk. Understanding the UVR dose and threshold necessary to initiate skin cells and the interplay between host pigmentation and sunlight in the pathway to melanoma development is the focus of her current research.
