Esther William Dungumaro

Esther W. Dungumaro, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Demography at the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Dungumaro holds a PhD from Hitotusbashi University, Tokyo, Japan. In addition to her PhD, Dungumaro received a Bachelor’s degree in Science with Education and a Master’s degree in Demography both from the University of Dar es Salaam. Currently Dungumaro is the Principal of Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE) which is a Constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam. Dungumaro has also taught at universities outside the country, which further demonstrates her strong academic ability in demography and population studies. From 2005 to 2007, Dungumaro was working in South Africa, at the University of KwaZulu Natal and was appointed the Director of Population and Poverty Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. Dungumaro, apart from gaining leadership experience through different positions held, in 2015 she was sponsored by the Carnagie Foundation to attend leadership training at the Harvard Business School, in the United States of America.
As an academic, Dungumaro has been involved in teaching, research and consultancy. In her area of specialization, Dungumaro is known within the country, Africa and beyond. She was a research fellow at the University of South Africa (UNISA) from 2011-2014. Dungumaro is a renowned author of peer reviewed papers, consultancy and research reports. Dungumaro has also presented academic papers in seminars and international conferences in areas of demography in general, and sexual and reproductive health, family planning, and population and development. As a demographer, Dungumaro has continued to conduct research on demographic issues, sexual and reproductive health using gender disaggregated data and on males and females for both policy and pragmatic purposes.
