Fernando Rosario-Ortiz

Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering, University of Colorado Boulder

The research conducted at the Rosario group deals primarily with the areas of environmental chemistry and oxidative processes (e.g. ozone) during water and wastewater treatment. In addition, research is conducted on the characterization of organic matter in the environment. Ongoing topics of research include: environmental photochemistry of organic matter; impact of watershed modifications on the physicochemical properties of dissolved organic matter (including forest fires, wastewater discharges, nutrient runoff); impact of oxidative treatment on algae with emphasis on the release of intracellular organic compounds and formation of disinfection by-products; water soluble organic carbon in aerosols; and oxidation of organic contaminants.
