Dr Folker Hanusch is Professor of Journalism at the University of Vienna, Austria. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Queensland University of Technology. He worked as a print journalist for Australian and German-language newspapers before being awarded a PhD from the University of Queensland in 2006.

His research interests focus on the study of journalists' professional views, journalism education, Indigenous journalism, lifestyle journalism and the role the journalism plays in the coverage of human suffering.
