My current research focuses on the mechanisms used by insects to cope with extreme environments, mainly deserts. My approach is to investigate both the physiological and behavioural strategies. Although my focus has been on beetles, I am currently also investigating the survival strategies of brown locusts, termites and ticks.

I have a broad teaching experience and have been involved in all aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. This is further outlined in my teaching portfolio. In my 3rd year and postgraduate teaching I include aspects of my research to encourage students to understand the scientific methodology and broaden their scientific experience.
