Françoise Ugochukwu

Senior Research Fellow, Development, Policy and Practice (DPP), The Open University

Françoise Ugochukwu, currently affiliated to the Open University, UK, is a Senior Research Fellow, IFRA, Ibadan and a retired Professor from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a special interest in Nollywood, Nigerian (Igbo) and Intercultural Studies. Her research currently focuses mainly on the reception, cultural and linguistic impact of Nollywood in Europe. Her latest book publications: Ugochukwu, Nollywood on the Move, Nigeria on Display (2013) and Tsaaior James Tar & Ugochukwu Françoise (Eds), Nigerian Film Culture and the Idea of the Nation: Nollywood and National Narration (2017) offer new insights into recent trends of this new cinema and highlight the eminently didactic character of this production rightly described as ‘edutainment’, its links with Nigerian literature and contemporary politics and its moral stance.
