Gergely is a consultant neonatologist with clinical responsibilities at the Birmingham Women's Hospital. His research explores several aspects of immunology, with a focus on immune development in the human neonate and immunological consequences of complications affecting term and preterm babies as well as pregnant women. He frequently uses flow cytometry in his studies and he contributed to the development of novel research and diagnostic applications of this method.
